Airlines ‘to move out of UK’ due to Heathrow congestion

Saturday, 18 Apr, 2012 0

More than half of international airlines are planning to move flights away from the UK because there’s no room at Heathrow, according to a new poll.

The Board of Airline Representatives in the UK (BAR UK) says its survey shows that rather than switching to other London airports, airlines are looking at alternative bases in other countries.

The survey results will be released today at a transport conference in London by BAA chief executive Colin Matthews in a further attempt to persuade the Government to give the go ahead for a third runway at Heathrow.

According to Sky News, Matthews will tell the conference in London that the UK is missing out on economic growth because of an inability to forge new airlinks with growing economies such as China.

BAR UK, a trade body which represents 84 scheduled airlines, said restricting capacity at London’s key airports to the same level as the last decade was actively encouraging airlines and trade to go elsewhere.
