AITO celebrates Spanish accolade

The Association of independent Tour Operators has been recognised for its services to the Spanish tourist industry by being voted the UK’s top British Travel Trade Association by the country’s tourist office.

Richard Heard, in his last duty as AITO chairman, said the organisation was “justifiably proud” of the achievement.

“We have supported the Spanish tourism industry since our inception 30 years ago and it is especially nice to be recognised in this historic year for the association,” he said. “Many members cut their teeth in the industry with trips to Spain and seeing the Spanish market flourish in tandem with the growth of AITO membership is gratifying.”

Derek Moore, founder director of adventure operator Explore, has been elected chairman.
