Alabama attracts record tourism crowds
Rehabilitated beaches and other attractions have led the state of Alabama to grow its tourism market by 14% in the past year and 33% in the last four-year period, said Gov. Bob Riley.
“Tourists have discovered our state’s rehabilitated beaches, first-class golf resorts and new business-class hotels,” he said. The 14% growth led to $1.2 billion in new revenues.
The governor credited a joint promotion by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism & Travel and Alabama Department of Conservation & Natural Resources for attracting visitors.
The state’s 2005 tourism campaign focused on Alabama’s food products and restaurants. It won various awards.
