Alaska Airlines awarded coveted Mexico City landing slots

Alaska Airlines announced it has been awarded landing slots at Mexico City, which will mark a return for the Seattle based airline at Benito Juarez International Airport.
Alaska last served the airport in 2015.
It said it would start flying to Mexico City daily from San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego in the summer.
"We are excited to serve Mexico City nonstop from our three largest California gateways," said John Kirby, vice president of capacity planning.
"Service to Benito Juarez International Airport enhances Alaska Airlines’ expansive West Coast network."
Alaska will deploy Boeing 737 and Embraer E175 aircraft on the routes.
The carrier intends to launch double-daily service from Los Angeles and once a day from San Diego and San Francisco.
It will become the ninth Mexican destination with direct air links from California.
The US DOT also tentatively awarded JetBlue and Southwest Airlines landing slots at Mexico City.
Separately, Alaska Air said it plans to hire 300 pilots and 900 cabin crew this year, along with about 1,000 other front-line jobs.
