Alaska waives first checked bag fee for January
Alaska Airlines is targeting new frequent flyer customers with a free limited time checked bag service.
The airline will offer one free checked bag during January for all new sign-ups and existing members of its Mileage Plan program in January.
The airline said it will waive the standard $25 bag fee for members to encourage new customers to sign up and experience its frequent flyer benefits.
New customers simply have to sign up online in advance before the day of travel.
"We are excited to offer all Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members a great perk when they fly with us during January – one free checked bag," said Caroline Boren, Alaska Airlines’ managing director of loyalty marketing and customer care.
"Starting the year by sampling Alaska’s award-winning loyalty program and beginning to earn miles toward a weekend getaway or the vacation of a lifetime is a great way to kick off 2015."
Alaska said all checked bags come with its baggage service guarantee.
This offers a $25 discount for use on a future Alaska Airlines flight or 2,500 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles if a checked bag is not at baggage claim within 20 minutes of the plane’s arrival at the gate.
