Alex Incorvaja confirms departure
Alex Incorvaja, director UK and Ireland for the Malta Tourism Authority, is leaving to return to Malta at the end of this month.
Incorvaja, who has been in the London role for six years, said he was going back to Malta to take a ‘hospitality’ role but did not disclose further details.
"I’ve had six fantastic years and it’s been an incredible learning curve in terms of what the industry has gone through," he said today.
He said despite a flat market, Malta has seen a 17.5% rise in UK visitors in the last five years.
"Malta has weathered the storm pretty well," he said.
In 2014, 487,714 Brits visited the island, a 7.3% rise year-on-year.
Incorvaja paid tribute to the trade for its part in the destination’s success.
"We recognise the trade as an extremely important channel in our business mix and in my six years in London I have made some excellent friends," he said.
"It’s going to be quite emotional leaving, but that said, I have decided it’s time to move on to the next chapter and I look back on the six years with a great feeling of accomplishment.
Before joining the tourism authority, Incorvaja was sales and markting director at the Inter-Continental Hotel Malta.
The Malta Tourism Authority is now seeking a replacement.
