All set for a new world record

Singapore Airlines will today set a new world record for the longest scheduled flight with its new non-stop service from Changi to Los Angeles. As reported by News From Abroad in September, the carrier, which already has a service between the two cities, stopping at Hong Kong, will use an Airbus A340-500 for the new service. The service, which will carry 117 passengers, will take 16 hours. According to a report in The Guardian, passengers on the flight will have two meals – as well as a choice of “warm snacks” to keep them going. The newspaper also reports that the plane will feature a “passengers’ corner” for socialising and stretching one’s legs. And, as if a 16-hour flight is not impressive enough, Singapore Airlines reportedly has plans for an 18-hour service from the island state to New York, commencing later this year.
