Amadeus helps airlines with the direct sell
Amadeus’ e-Travel has launched a new version of its online fares technology in a bid to help airlines boost direct sales through the internet.
Planitgo Flex Pricer [Calender] will display a series of fares on one screen for flights close to the requested date.
Amadeus communications manager, Rob Golledge told TravelMole: “The calender enable people to view not just the best fares for a specific date, but over a series of days. It allows the airline to show the difference between fares, so people can make the choice.”
Planitgo Flex Pricer [Calender] is aimed at the leisure traveller who can be flexible with their travel dates, but also business travellers who may decide to pay a little extra to travel at the most efficient time or day.
E-Travel managing director, Ian Wheeler said: “Consumers expect to get the best deal online and are prepared to search multiple sites to ensure their needs are met.”
Mr Golledge added: “Websites like ba.com has done this itself, but we have developed a slightly different version that shows the fares on a single screen, whereas most airline websites use a step process, so first you have to select the outbound part and then the return before you can see the fare.”
E-Travel hopes the product will enable airlines to cut costs by reducing call centre traffic and to compete more effectively. The technology has been designed for airlines, so there are no plans to release it to online agencies because e-Travel has agency faring tools to cater for them.
