Amadeus simplifies ancillary bookings
North American travel agents now have the ability to access and book a range of add-on services for airline passengers through Amadeus.
The company has introduced a range of ancillary services for 14 airlines that can be booked direct from the desktop.
Products available for sale include premium seat upgrades, pre-paid baggage, priority boarding, lounge access and meals.
The service is initially being rolled out for bookings on Air Berlin, Air France, Air New Zealand, Alitalia, Austrian, Belair, Corsair, El Al, Finnair, Iberia, Lufthansa, Niki, SAS and Spirit Airlines.
According to Robert Buckman, head of distribution for Amadeus North America, talks are taking place to include other carriers such as American Airlines, Delta and United Airlines.
"We plan to be a leading provider of ancillary content across this market. This is just the tip of the iceberg," he said.
Amadeus’ ancillary product functionality offers agents greater control and a fully integrated back office tool, ensuring the booking process is faster and more efficient.
Amadeus is also launching the Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) in North America.
This is a standardized IATA- and ARC-compliant method of tracking all ancillary and travel related services.
