Amadeus to acquire airline tech firm Navitaire
Looking to expand its footprint in the low cost carrier market, travel tech provider Amadeus is poised to acquire airline technology firm Navitaire for a reported $830 million.
The deal to buy Navitaire, a fully owned subsidiary of consulting firm Accenture, is likely to close by the end of the year, Amadeus said.
Navitaire provides reservations, loyalty programmes, ancillary sales and revenue accounting solutions to more than 50 airlines, focusing on the low cost sector.
It also has agreements with high-speed rail and bus operators.
The deal will give Amadeus a path into the fast growing LCC market especially in Asia.
Navitaire customer base includes major budget airlines AirAsia, Cebu Pacific, SpiceJet and Jetstar.
"Bringing Navitaire’s experience, industry know-how, client base and strong product portfolio is a significant step for Amadeus in the low-cost and hybrid-carrier segments," said Amadeus president Luis Maroto.
An Amadeus statement said Navitaire’s 550 employees and management team would move to Amadeus.
"Today’s announcement marks a new chapter for Navitaire that will enable us to accelerate and deepen our industry offerings," said David P. Evans, Navitaire CEO.
