Amadeus UK expands cruise distribution
Amadeus has signed 65 new UK cruise customers so far this year, growing cruise bookings by 75% year-on-year.
Cunard has become the latest line to distribute through Amadeus Cruise Reservations in the UK, following the recent implementation of Norwegian Cruise Line plus Seabourn and Ocean Village earlier this year.
The GDS is now offering 12 cruise lines and more are to be added. Amadeus Cruise allows agents to sell cruises from their desktop using the internet, regardless of their location or GDS affiliation.
Amadeus UK has recently released the latest Amadeus Cruise Reservations software update – version 3.8 – that has been deployed automatically to all UK users. Version 3.8 has been designed to improve the cruise booking workflow including guest age and sailing duration processing as well as the use of promotion codes and past passenger reference number recognition.
Carnival UK head of customer service solutions Andrew Moran said: “Brands such as P&O Cruises are seeing automation levels of 60% thanks to the popularity of browser based tools such as Amadeus Cruise Reservations. We are confident that bookings for Cunard Line will see a similarly rapid adoption as cruise bookers experience the benefits of automated bookings.”
The GDS’s UK managing director Stephane Durand said: “As technology partner to our agency customers, Amadeus is placing greater emphasis on solutions for non-air bookings. Amadeus Cruise Reservations is at the forefront of our efforts to assist travel agents with revenue diversification.
“The UK is now the number two market for Amadeus cruise bookings, accounting for some 30% of all Amadeus’ global cruise bookings.
“Due to the on-going investment Amadeus is making in our cruise application, our customers are seeing significant time savings throughout the booking process together with improvements in the service they are able to offer clients.”
