American Airlines appoints chief inclusion officer
Kenneth Charles has been named as American Airlines’ chief inclusion and diversity officer.
Charles will head up American’s inclusion and diversity strategy which includes diversity, equity and inclusion best practices across all areas of the business.
"Ken brings a wealth of experience to the team and is a proven leader in creating global inclusion strategies," said American chairman and chief executive, Doug Parker.
"We are on a journey to enhance our approach to diversity, equity and inclusion across American, and Ken will help chart our course."
Charles joins the airline from US Bank, where he was SVP of enterprise talent
He has a decade of experience in inclusion and diversity leadership.
American has beefed up its diversity and inclusion policies after being stung into action by the NAACP which issued a travel advisory against flying with the airline, alleging numerous racially biased incidents.
Since working with the NAACP the airline has implemented various changes in how it trains employees and interacts with customers.
This includes implicit bias training for all employees and creating a specialist team to resolve and implement improvements based on customer feedback.
"We have progressed our company’s focus on inclusion and diversity, and we recognize we can and will do even more," Parker added.
