American Airlines expands South America service from Miami
American Airlines is pressing ahead with expansion to Latin America despite being spurned by would-be partner LATAM Airlines.
American announced more Miami flights to several Latin American destinations.
Starting April 7 next year, the airline will operate a third daily service to Lima, Peru on Boeing 757s.
Beginning next winter American will add another flight to Chilean capital Santiago, and a third daily flight to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
"American’s leading position in Miami is something we’re proud of and committed to maintaining," said Vasu Raja, American’s VP of network and schedule planning.
"We’ll continue to grow, compete and thrive in a region of the world where we have a long history."
American’s stalled joint venture proposal with LATAM has now been scrapped for good after rival Delta Air Lines agreed to take a 20% stake in the South American airline.
Additionally, American plans to launch a new nonstop service from Boston to London Heathrow next year.
It will fly 777-200 jets on the route which has 37 Business and 24 Premium Economy seats.
"Boston customers have been asking for more service and we’re delivering with this new flight," Raja added.
In cooperation with joint business partner British Airways, American customers have access to 71 flights every day between the US and London.
