American Airlines gears up for launch of LA-Sydney flights
American Airlines will step up its on board product for the Australian market when it launches flights from Sydney to Los Angeles next month.
The airline said the improvements would bring it in line with partner Qantas, with newer aircraft, an improved economy class, pyjamas in business class, wi-fi and better quality coffee.
It is also working with high-profile Australian chef Neil Perry to devise menus for its Sydney flights.
In the city to celebrate the launch of the route, American Airlines chief executive and president Doug Parker told local media the airline knew its product had not been up to scratch when it last operated to Australia 24 years ago.
He said the airline is investing $2 billion in on-board products and services, upgrading cabins and offering more in-flight entertainment options.
The new flights, due to start on December 19, are part of a joint venture with Qantas.
Using Boeing 777 aircraft, capacity will grow by 9%.
