American, JetBlue fail to block DOJ antitrust lawsuit
The U.S. Justice Department’s antitrust lawsuit against American Airlines and JetBlue Airways will proceed after the airlines failed to dismiss the lawsuit.
A trial date is set for September 26. The DOJ is challenging the airlines’ Northeast Alliance partnership, claiming it will lead to higher fares and less competition.
JetBlue is attempting a hostile takeover of LCC Spirit Airlines. The Spirit board has favoured a lower rival bid from Frontier Airlines ’parent, because it doesn’t believe JetBlue’s bid will pass antitrust scrutiny
