American offering bonus miles for premium fliers through 2015
American Airlines Group said it will offer bonus miles for frequent-flier members who travel on premium fares next year.
Customers of American Airlines and merger partner US Airways traveling on first and business class tickets will benefit from a ‘bonus mile promotion.’
No additional registration is required and it will be effective throughout 2015, the airline said.
Customer will receive the additional miles automatically.
Basic level frequent fliers will earn at last 3,000 miles on most fares, but the most discounted business class fares are excluded from the bonus.
Elite members will receive up to 24,000 extra miles for a round trip long-haul journey which includes on codeshare itineraries with American’s partners including British Airways, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Qantas and Finnair.
"As the largest airline in the world, with a global network that spans 54 countries, our frequent-flier program must also be the best in the business," said AAdvantage loyalty program president Suzanne Rubin.
"A mile flown continues to be a mile earned in AAdvantage, and now we’re going to reward customers even more when they purchase a first or business class ticket."
Top-tier members (AAdvantage Executive Platinum / Dividend Miles Chairman’s Preferred) will receive 12,000 bonus miles on long haul segments and 1,000 bonus miles on shorter flights on applicable full fare tickets in business and first class.
For the bonus miles promotion, American is classing ‘long haul’ as flights over 3,000 miles, and including transcontinental routes from New York JFK to Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The move and scope of the year-long promotion is designed to close the gap on Delta and United who are moving to revenue-based loyalty programs, primarily targeting high-spending elite fliers.
American had said it will not consider a similar dollar-based program until after full integration with US Airways is complete.
