American plans new Japan flights
American Airlines plans to launch flights to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport from New York JFK.
It would become the only US carrier flying the route.
American submitted an application to the DOT to offer daytime service between JFK and HND.
Pending approval, American’s new service will operate year-round once a day.
The new flight will complement existing Japan flights operated by American’s partner, JAL.
“American looks forward to presenting our competitive application to provide new and enhanced Japan flights to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport,” said Molly Wilkinson, VP of Regulatory and International Government Affairs.
“Joining American’s existing flights from DFW and Los Angeles, JFK to Tokyo service adds an East Coast gateway to one of the most important business hubs in the world.”
Starting March 28, American will also offer four daily nonstop flights to Tulum, Mexico.
New flights to Tulum build on American’s record winter service to nearby Cancun where the airline operates up to 40 peak-day departures to 18 US destinations.
American’s flights to Tulum will operate on Boeing 737 aircraft .
