American travelers spared as Canada closes borders
Canada has closed its borders to all non-citizens except US travelers.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called on all Canadians overseas to return home and all Canadians in the country to stay indoors where possible.
In response to questions why the US was given an exception from the blanket worldwide ban on incoming travel, Trudeau said that could still change.
He recognized the importance of maintaining social and trade integration between the two nations, although that could change as cases in the US continue to spike.
Covid-19 is now present in all 50 US states.
From today all international flights to Canada will be funnelled into Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal.
"If you’re abroad, it’s time to come home. If you’ve just arrived, it’s time to self-isolate for 14 days. All Canadians, as much possible, should stay home," he said.
Trudeau is also in self-isolation after his wife tested positive for the coronavirus.
