American, US Airways frequent flyer programs merging March 28
American Airlines and merger partner US Airways have officially confirmed their frequent flyer programs will become one on Saturday March 28.
US Airways’ Dividend Miles loyalty program members will join American’s AAdvantage, increasing its size to about 100 million members, making it the world’s largest single program in the industry.
US Airways’ Dividend Miles will be migrated to AAdvantage on a one-for-one basis staring March 26 and is expected to be completed for all members by Saturday.
“When we began the overall integration process, we really made it our mission to get customer benefits into the market as soon as possible,” said AAdvantage president Suzanne Rubin.
“The integration of the loyalty program is a huge next step in that process.”
American expects to be granted a single operating certificate next month from federal regulators which will means it will become a single entity.
By the fourth quarter of this year, it expects to complete the final hurdle – merging separate reservations systems into one, when the US Airways’ booking code will finally disappear.
