American/US merger ‘weeks away’
The American/US Airways merger is reported to be a matter of weeks from going ahead.
Reuters has cited several unidentified sources which say the two American airlines are now negotiating the final price tag and management layout.
One of the items to be resolved is how equity of the merged company would be divided between US Airways and AMR creditors.
American Airlines plunged into bankruptcy in November 2011 citing high labour costs.
The tie-up would help both airlines compete with larger US rivals like Delta Air Lines. and other news sources report that an American/US Airways merger deal could come in the next two weeks.
Earlier this month American Airlines and US Airways signed a ‘pilot’s agreement’ in preparation, making a merger between the two airlines more ‘probable’, see previous story.
