Americans reluctant to cut back on travel
For anyone who doubts Americans are extremely reluctant to cut back on travel, Carlson Wagonlit’s new study is the latest to reaffirm that notion.
Despite a soft economy and weak collar, the 2008 Travel Trends Study found Europe continues to be in demand by Americans. Specifically, the Mediterranean is heading American wish lists.
Mediterranean cruising took the number 5 spot for Top 10 International Destinations, beating out Jamaica, London and several Mexican destinations.
No surprise that the popularity of cruising is on the rise, partly in response to the soft economy and the weak dollar.
The number one international destination is Caribbean cruising – the fifth straight year in a row it has earned the top spot. Mediterranean cruising and Mexican cruising also placed in the top 10. However, for the first time in four years, Alaska took the number one spot for top cruise destination.
The 2008 Travel Trends Study is based on responses received from a record 555 Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associate owners, managers and travel agents throughout the US.
