ANA asks passengers to relieve themselves

All Nippon Airways is asking passengers to empty their bladders before boarding a flight with the Japanese airline.
For a month, the carrier is experimenting with asking people at the departure gate to make a last trip to the bathroom.
The latest attempt by an airline to reduce weight on board, and therefore save money because less fuel will be needed, has left ANA open to ridicule.
However, the airline’s North America spokeswoman Jean Saito said it was a serious project. “If the flight is lighter, we use less gasoline, which is good for the environment.”
ANA hopes that over 30 days, the weight saved through people visiting the bathroom before take-off will save five tonnes of carbon emissions. Apparently, if 150 people relieve themselves on an aircraft, it would amount to 140 lbs of waste.
But don’t most people relieve themselves before they board anyway? Let us know your views on the ANA experiment.
