Anaheim: What’s New – 2007’s Top Seven

Celebrating its 150th Anniversary in 2007, Anaheim welcomes continued development, including new popular restaurants, a boutique hotel and the highly anticipated Anaheim GardenWalk. Beyond the center of OC, the Orange County area boasts new cultural exhibits, a $14.6 million arts expansion and several new dining and shopping options.

The following is a summary of 2007’s top news:

  • Anaheim GardenWalk, a unique outdoor shopping and dining experience among beautifully manicured garden walkways began construction in May 2006. The brand new development’s space is currently 80 percent committed with popular retailers and restaurants, such as Bubba Gump, California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory, McCormick & Schmick Grill, P.F. Chang’s and Roy’s of Hawaii. The first phase of restaurants located along Katella Avenue is slated to open in November 2007.
  • The City of Anaheim celebrates its 150th Anniversary on October 5, 2007. The anniversary festivities, themed “Anaheim 150: Always Fresh & Never Grows Old,” kicked off in October 2006 with monthly events scheduled throughout the year, including an award winning float in the annual Rose Parade, a new Anaheim/Orange County Walk of Stars, and Club Anaheim/OC – the final night event of International Pow Wow 2007.
  • Bowers Museum celebrated the new state-of-the-art Dorothy and Donald Kennedy Wing grand opening on Sunday, February 18, 2007, featuring two spectacular new exhibitions – “Ansel Adams: Classic Images” and “Treasures from Shanghai: 5,000 Years of Chinese Art and Culture.” The new $14.6 million expansion measures 30,000 square feet and is the Bowers’ second major development in 15 years.
  • On June 13, 2007, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, the next “E-Ticket” attraction comes to the Disneyland® Resort. The all-new underwater  adventure is inspired by the Disney presentation of the Pixar Animation Studios film, Finding Nemo, and will feature the eight submarines of the fondly remembered Submarine Voyage attraction.
  • Anaheim welcomes the Hotel Ménage onto the scene as the city’s first premier boutique hotel. The hotel completed a total renovation of the public space of the former Holiday Inn in December 2006, including the addition of several new elements: the award winning k’ya restaurant; a hip, candle-lit lobby bar and lounge; the Red Room – a business center with a lush twist; seven uniquely themed private event rooms, and the Mist Pool Bar, set to also host a nightclub on Friday and Saturday evenings. The grand opening is planned for May/June 2007 once the guest room renovation is complete.
  • The Muzeo is scheduled to open in Fall 2007 in Downtown Anaheim. The cultural center includes an exhibit hall, museum space and a history cent er on the ground floor of one of the six mixed-use developments of the CIM Group’s downtown revitalization project. Imperial Rome, which features 450 artifacts on loan from more than 15 Italian museums, will be the first exhibition shown at the new facility in October 2007.
  • Construction continues on The Platinum Triangle in Anaheim. Envisioned as Orange County’s new downtown, it consists of 820 acres surrounding Angel Stadium and will be a vibrant, 24-hour, mixed-use, urban environment with more than 7,300 residences, restaurants, shops and commercial and office space. The first phase including the Stadium Lofts opened in January 2007,and the largest development, Lennar’s 40.6-acre A-Town, is scheduled for completion in 2008.
