Angkor Wat admission fee to almost double
One-day visitors to Cambodia’s iconic Angkor Wat temple complex will have to shell out almost twice as much from next year.
Cambodia’s government says admission fees will go up in February to $37 from the current $20 for a single day ticket.
A three-day pass will then cost $62, up from $40 while a seven-day ticket rises to $72 from $60.
Angkor Enterprise, the state run agency in charge of ticket sales gave no reason for the price hike but said $2 from every ticket sold will be donated to a local children’s hospital.
According to government data, 2.1 million tourists visited the UNESCO World Heritage site last year.
The announcement came just days after a new dress code came into effect, banning ‘immodest attire.’
This was brought in after a spate of ‘naked selfies’ caused a backlash and resulted in several tourists being deported.
