Another blow for Indian travel agents
Indian travel agents are planning a campaign to get Turkish Airlines to reverse its decision to slash commissions from five per cent to zero, with effect from January 1.
Turkish Airlines is the latest international airline to jump on the zero commission bandwagon in India and joins a list of 16 other international airlines which have moved to zero commission.
Iqbal Mulla, president of the Travel Agents Association of India, said, “We supported Turkish Airlines with their expansion in India, and they are doing well now.
“We will try to convince them to withdraw this disappointing decision. If not the airline and agents will suffer severe setbacks.â€
Travel trade associations in India say they will pursue this issue legally, jut as they are doing with the other international airlines which are not paying commission to agents.
Mulla added, “We are already in talks with the officials of Turkish Airlines at the highest level and will definitely pursue this matter and convince them to revoke the decision.â€
