British Airways chairman Martin Broughton has been knighted in the New Year’s Honours List.
Broughton is credited with turning around the fortunes of the carrier, returning it to half-year profits for the first time in two years.
A former CBI president, Broughton left school with not much in the way of qualifications and rose through the ranks of British American Tobacco before joining British Airways in 2005 as chairman.
He is also credited with overseeing the sale of Liverpool football club this year for £300m.
