Aruba posted strong tourism growth for 2014, reaching one million stay-over visitors for the first time.

There were 1.07 million arrivals, up 9.5% from 2013, according to official data from Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA).

Aruba’s 9.5% jump in arrivals was seventh highest of the 28 destinations tracked by CTO, trailing behind only the Turks & Caicos, Grenada, Montserrat, Haiti, the Cayman Islands and the Dominican Republic.

Visits by North American travelers increased by 3.7% the ATA said, and it remains " a strong market focus."

"We could not be prouder of what our island has accomplished," said Ronella Tjin Asjoe-Croes, ATA’s CEO.

"Tourism is the heart of our economy, and the dedication and perseverance of our happy locals combined with our always-improving product ensures Aruba remains a thriving tourist destination."
