Aruba has lauded a ‘monumental’ year for tourism in 2015 with record arrivals.

The Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) said there was a 14.3% increase in stayover visitors to 1.22 million.

This included a 7.7% annual increase from US markets.

"2015 was a monumental year for Aruba, not only in tourism performance but also in innovation and creativity. The launch of our award-winning Happiness Builder, a content-rich planning experience on aruba.com paired with airport and island-wide hotel product renovations and our famous Aruban hospitality, all contributed to the continued success," said Ronella Tjin Asjoe-Croes, CEO of ATA.

Aruba’s hotel sector performed well in 2015 with total visitor nights up by 8.3%, while revenue per available room rose slightly to $185.20.

"Aruba’s record breaking tourism performance, coupled with awards received this year for our island’s innovation, proves the creative marketing and dedication of the government, ATA, industry partners and locals are successful," tourism minister Otmar Oduber said.

The tourism authority projects another positiveyear ahead despite the recent addition of Aruba to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Zika alert list.
