Asian Cup set to kick goals for Australia
Soccer fans from across Asia are expected to make their way to Australia for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) chief executive Ken Morrison said the tournament would stimulate spending across Australia’s visitor economy.
"It will be a month like no other with 32 matches in 23 days across five different host cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Newcastle."
The competition will kick off in Melbourne on January 9 with an opening ceremony and Socceroos match and will culminate in the final at Sydney’s Stadium Australia on January 31.
Morrison said major events played an important role in the visitor economy by profiling a destination and boosting spending by international visitors.
Australia is preparing to welcome 45,000 international visitors for the tournament and 2.5 billion people globally are expected to watch the televised games.
