Asian Games coup for Air Astana
Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, has been named the official air carrier for the seventh Asian Winter Games, which will take place in Almaty and Astana between January 30 and February 6, 2011.
The event will see delegations from 32 countries across the region in attendance, with more than 2,500 competing athletes, 10,000 visitors and a large contingent of international media travelling to Kazakhstan.
Air Astana will be boosting frequencies on both international routes and the Almaty-Astana domestic trunk route to match increased passenger throughout the Asian Winter Games period and additionally operate a series of special charter flights to Astana for the organisers.
Peter Foster, president of Air Astana said, “I’m confident that Air Astana will not only play a leading role in projecting a very positive image of Kazakhstan to a wide international sporting audience, but also help dramatically boost future tourist arrivals.”
Air Astana flies an all-western fleet comprising two Boeing 767s, four Boeing 757s, ten Airbus A320 Family and six Fokker 50 aircraft.
