Asiana settles first passenger lawsuit over San Francisco crash

Tuesday, 04 Mar, 2015 0

Asiana Airlines has reached a settlement with 72 of the passengers aboard the Boeing 777 plane which crashed on landing at San Francisco two years ago.

Attorneys from both sides released a joint statement saying the passengers had settled personal injury claims with the airline.

The settlements, which were not disclosed, are the first claims and involve passengers with the most minor injuries, attorney Frank Pitre said.

"This is the first positive step for these passengers to be able to get closure on a tragic, catastrophic crash and hopefully try to get their lives back together," said Pitre, who represents 10 claimants.

In the July 6, 2013 crash, Asiana flight 124 clipped a seawall and crashed on the runway at San Francisco International Airport.

Three people were killed while 180 were injured.

Representatives from Asiana led the negotiations on behalf of the airline itself, plane maker Boeing and the manufacturer of the emergency evacuation slides, Air Cruisers Co.

There are still about 60 lawsuits outstanding against the airline filed by crew members and other passengers.
