At least 15 dead in California fires
Latest reports that as many as 1,000 houses have been destroyed in the southern California fires, which have also reportedly killed at least 15 people.
The blazes now stretch from the Mexican border to the suburbs of Los Angeles some 100 miles to the north, and around 80,000 people are thought to be without electricity because of the fires.
An incredible 30,000 more homes are still said to be in danger, and air traffic – particularly involving local flights – has been delayed.
Californian authorities are reporting that many of those who died in the fires perished because they refused to obey evacuation orders until the very last minute.
Police are reportedly hunting for two men who are believed to have started at least one of the fires; if they are caught it is likely they will be charged with murder.
