Atlanta Airport outage may cost Delta Air Lines USD50 million
Delta Air Lines’ CEO reckons the power outage at its Atlanta hub may cost the airline up to $50 million and he wants someone to pay up.
The world’s busiest airport was hit by a blackout on Sunday and remained without power for several hours.
Delta was forced to cancel about 1,400 flights and dozens more which were in the air at the time were rerouted to other airports.
"We had a lot of people at the start of the business week that didn’t take their trips," Ed Bastian told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"We will certainly be seeking the opportunity to have a conversation, and then seek reimbursement," he said.
Passengers were still stuck at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport until Tuesday as the airline struggled to get up and running again.
An underground fire is thought to have been the cause, although the FBI and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating to see whether it could have been an act of sabotage.
