ATOL reforms to receive mixed reaction

A reform of the Air Travel Organiser’s Licence regulations will be revealed within months but ABTA head of public affairs Luke Pollard has admitted it won’t get universal approval.
“I’m not at liberty to reveal details at this stage, but elements of it will be seen as OK and some parts of it won’t. That’s inevitable, I’m afraid,” said Pollard.
“I can absolutely predict that there will be a series of stories saying that ABTA have let down the consumer but we have been working hard to get changes.”
There will be no immediate change to the rule that people do not have financial protection when buying scheduled airline tickets as this would require primary legislation.
The changes to the ATOL regulations are likely to take effect from October 2011.
