August audiences with Pope Benedict XVI
In August, when all of Italy goes on vacation, the Pope often goes to the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo outside of Rome and reachable by public rail service.
Castel Gandolfo is widely considered one of Italy’s most beautiful towns.
This August, the Pope’s schedule of blessings and audiences is set to be held primarily at Castel Gandolfo, although dates are subject to change and it’s wise to double-check with the Vatican at: www.vatican.va/.
Opportunities for blessings, audiences and masses include the Angelus/Papal Blessing at 12 Noon on August 5, 12, 19, 26; the Audience at Castel Gandolfo on August 8, 22, 29 and Holy Mass, which is held on August 15 at the Parish Church of St. Thomas Villanova, designed by Bernini (1658-1661).
Although tickets are always free when they are required in Rome, they are not required for audiences at Castel Gandolfo in August. As with any Papal audience, modest dress is required. Participants should not wear shorts. Shoulders should not be bare and dresses should reach the knee or lower.
