Aussies voters oppose Qantas sale to APA

Thursday, 13 Mar, 2007 0

An up to the minute AC Nielsen poll says that Aussies are not too happy with Federal Government’s decision to approve the sale of Qantas, with 56% disapproving of the government’s decision not to restrict the $11 billion private equity buyout and only 31% approving.

The current Mole Poll which asks TravelMole subscribers whether they think that Qantas shareholders should reject the APA bid says that 84% think that shareholders should not sell, but only 16% saying that they should sell,

The AC Nielsen poll suggests that voters aren’t convinced by the government’s pledge to guarantee jobs and air services

This result comes a day after an AC Nielsen poll showed that the coalition was performing poorly with AC Nielsen also saying that opposition to the Qantas decision was strongest in Western Australia and South Australia.

The poll suggests the Qantas takeover is becoming another issue running against the government and voters are not convinced by guarantees on air services and jobs which the government secured from the private equity consortium bidding for the airline.
