Austria opens winter resorts early
Austrian ski resorts have opened more than two weeks earlier than usual following November snow falls.
There is already more than 1m of snow right down to the valley stations in many areas, according to the Austrian National Tourist Office.
Among the resorts that are opening this weekend are Zell am See, Saalbach-Hinterglemm and Mayrhofen.
Meanwhile, the Ski Club of Great Britain reported that Verbier in Switzerland received 5cm at 1,500m and 40cm at 2,950m yesterday, and is scheduled to open on Saturday.
“St Anton, Austria is swimming in snow and is scheduled to open on November 30. Many other resorts may open earlier than planned if the snow continues,” the Ski Club said.
Pre-Christmas ski holiday rates include seven nights in a resort near Salzburg from Gatwick with Inghams starting at £244 per person.
Crystal Ski has a special offer for Kitzbühel’s Club Hotel Hofer at a reduced price of £269 pp – a saving of £245, departing on December 15 from Gatwick.
EasyJet starts flying from Gatwick and Bristol to Innsbruck from December 14 with prices starting at £38.98 return.
