Austria opens its first ski resorts ahead of the winter season
Get your calendars ready—Austria’s most popular ski resorts are preparing to welcome winter enthusiasts for the 2025/26 season.
Leading the pack is Ötztal’s Sölden, where glacier lifts are set to start spinning this weekend. Zell am See-Kaprun follows in mid-October, while Schladming-Dachstein kicks off the season with a special treat: three Backstreet Boys concerts from December 5–7. Ischgl will host its traditional Top of the Mountain Opening Concert on November 29, headlined by singer Rita Ora.

- Pitztal – Pitztaler Gletscher (Tyrol): September 27, 2025; Rifflsee from December 14
- Zillertal – Hintertuxer Gletscher (Tyrol): From September 27, 2025
- Kaunertaler Gletscher (Tyrol): October 3, 2025
- Mölltaler Gletscher (Carinthia): October 10, 2025
- Zell am See – Kaprun, Kitzsteinhorn (Salzburger Land): October 11, 2025 (snow permitting)
November 2025 Openings
- Ötztal – Sölden (Tyrol): November 13, 2025
- Ötztal – Obergurgl-Hochgurgl (Tyrol): November 20, 2025
- Kitzbühel (Tyrol): November 22, 2025 (partial/weekend operations)
- Paznaun – Ischgl (Tyrol): November 27, 2025 (Top of the Mountain Opening Concert November 29)
- Gasteinertal – Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel (Salzburger Land): November 28, 2025 (partial operations)
- Obertauern (Salzburger Land): November 28, 2025
- Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Fieberbrunn (Salzburger Land): November 28, 2025 (partial operations)
