BA accused of ‘band-aid’ strategy

EasyJet has taken a side-wipe at British Airways as BA starts its new business class-only flights to New York from London City Airport.

BA will be the first carrier to operate long haul from the London Docklands airport with specially configured 32-seat Airbus aircraft which will stop in Shannon for re-fuelling on the outward journey.

EasyJet UK general manager Paul Simmons said: “Flying 32 overly pampered bankers to New York twice a day is a band-aid strategy which will do nothing to address the fundamental collapse of business class revenues across BA’s network.

“In Europe BA is in terminal decline on premium traffic as customers vote with their wallets by moving to low-cost business flights.”
