British Airways has apologised to passengers affected by problems with its baggage systems at Heathrow Terminal 5 on Thursday morning.

It said the problems ‘slowed down’ passengers dropping off bags for a ‘small period of time’.

As a result, a small number of flights left without all customers bags.

"The system is now operating as normal and we are working to get the bags reunited within the next 12-24hrs," it said at around 2.30pm.

"We’re in contact with those customers and their bags will be put on the next available flight to get them back to them as soon as possible," it added.

Passengers took to social media to vent their frustrations, saying there were only a few BA staff at the check-in desks and that people ‘we getting agitated and angry’.

BA told customers to ‘feel free to purchase any essential items, but make sure to keep your receipts’ and shared a link for making a claim for reimbursement.
