UK: Carrier relaxes regulations to keep passengers happy

British Airways is breaking its own ticketing rules in an effort to ensure passengers do not abandon air travel in the face of increased security and delays.

On all bookings made before 17 March and departing before 31 May, all long-haul passengers with BA will effectively be able to “fly when they are ready” – that is, they will be able to postpone their flight or change destination up to 72 hours before departure.

Under normal circumstances they would face losing up to 100 per cent of the cost of the ticket. Travellers must take their changed trip by the end of the year; BA will also review the situation in June and the offer could be extended.

The airline also vowed to make travel as easy as possible when flights are delayed or switched to other airports, telling The Sunday Times: “If planes are diverted we are not obliged to compensate travellers but we would make every endeavour to organise coaches to take passengers to their intended destination.”
