BA continues crisis talks with unions
Flights still being delayed four days after start of wildcat strike
British Airways is this morning still holding talks with unions as hundreds of travellers are still reported to be stranded at Heathrow airport.
Nearly four days after the start of the walkout by BA staff on Friday, many of the carrier’s flights are still being delayed. Services from the airport’s Terminal One are said to operating smoothly, but there are still delays at Terminal Four even if passengers are being told to turn up and check in as normal.
The wildcat strike, for which there was no warning, is as a result of British Airways’ plans to introduce a “smart” clocking-on system for staff, which many believe will lead to workers being sent home during quieter periods. Unions have told the airline that unless there is more progress today, workers will be balloted for industrial action.
British Airways, for its part, says the controversial swipe-card system is already in use in parts of Heathrow – and has been for nearly three years. BA’s special phone line for passenger information is 0800 727 800.
