BA flights ‘returning to normal’
British Airways flights from Heathrow were returning to normal today following a weekend of chaos.
The airline – caught up in a dispute at a flight catering supplier – said it planned to operate all short haul flights from the London hub today – 24 hours earlier than originally anticipated.
BA said long haul flights were “returning to normal” with plans to operate over 95% of flights “for the next couple of days”.
In a statement this morning the airline said: “We apologise unreservedly to our customers. This is an unprecedented situation.
“We are doing everything we can to help our customers and have drafted in additional staff from around the airline to assist.”
More than 70,000 passengers were left stranded around the world after some ground staff walked out last Thursday in sympathy with 670 employees dismissed by catering firm Gate Gourmet.
Limited services resumed on Friday night and the airline has been attempting to clear the backlog of flights since.
