BA launches hand baggage-only fares from Heathrow and London City
British Airways is offering hand baggage-only fares from both London Heathrow and London City Airports for the first time following their successful introduction on flights from Gatwick earlier this year.
The fares are now on sale for travel from September 24 between Heathrow and nine short-haul destinations: Amsterdam, Stockholm, Barcelona, Paris (Charles de Gaulle and Orly), Rome, Rotterdam, Glasgow and Edinburgh at £20 lower than the current lowest return fares (£10 one-way), inclusive of taxes.
Lower fares for hand baggage-only customers will be available from London City to Amsterdam, Stockholm, Edinburgh and Glasgow. All will also cost £10 less than the current lowest one-way fare.
Customers choosing the hand baggage-only fare can carry on a case measuring no more than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, plus a handbag or laptop bag.
BA is also launching a trial of a new semi-flex fare between London and Amsterdam, Stockholm, Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Rotterdam, Glasgow and Edinburgh, which allows customers to change their flight.
Robin Glover-Faure, British Airways’ head of short-haul, said: "The hand baggage-only fare at Gatwick has proved very popular with our customers so we’re now introducing it on a selected number of short-haul routes from Heathrow and London City.
"If it proves as successful, we plan to roll it out across the whole short-haul network in the coming months."
"We have also listened to our customers and we’re introducing a new fare type, the semi-flex ticket, which gives travellers a range of new options, including the opportunity to change their ticket on the day of departure for no extra fee."
Customers will be able to mix and match between the standard, semi-flex and fully- flex fare classes.
