BA needing promotions to fill seats
“Significant promotional activity” is required by British Airways to fill seats, the airline said today.
This is despite a 9.3% rise in premium carryings and a 4.1% increase in economy passengers in December over the same month in 2004.
For the October-December quarter, BA saw premium traffic up 9.3% while economy rose by 5.2% year-on-year to give an overall passenger load factor of 74.1%.
BA has put more than 1.5 million discounted tickets on sale for travel on selected dates until december 2006. Sample rates include New York from £249 and Hong Kong from £399.
The airline said: “Market conditions remain broadly unchanged, as significant promotional activity is required to deliver seat factors.”
