BA pilot and passenger killed in light aircraft crash
A British Airways officer reportedly attempted to loop-the-loop in a light aircraft before it crashed killing both him and his passenger at the weekend.
Andrew Sully, 50, died with passenger Simon Chamberlain, 29, when their Yak 52 plane crashed into flames in a field on Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses described seeing the plane attempt a "loop the loop" 100ft off the ground before it plummeted to the ground at Crooksmill Green, Essex.
Two teenage army cadets ran to the burning wreckage in an attempt to rescue the two men but were beaten back by the flames.
Essex Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray named the pilot as Andrew John Sully, 50, from Writtle, Essex who was a serving senior first officer with British Airways.
She identified the second man as Mr Chamberlain, a father-of-one, who had been at nearby North Weald airfield with his family.
An inquest is expected to be opened into the deaths this afternoon. The Air Accident Investigation Branch is investigating.
