BA pilot sacked after breath test
Sweden: Captain was arrested shortly before flight out of Stockholm
A British Airways pilot who failed a breath test shortly before a flight has been sacked by the airline.
As reported by News From Abroad, 53-year-old Captain Simon Robinson was arrested by Swedish police after taking and failing a breath test at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport last month.
Now, despite the fact that BA denied the pilot was in fact going to fly the Airbus A320, the carrier has sacked Robinson following a disciplinary hearing. BA has given the pilot seven days to appeal against the decision; the airline’s rules state that pilots cannot drink AT ALL within eight hours of a flight, and only “in moderation” in the 24 hours before flying.
Meanwhile, in Florida, six baggage handlers have admitted stealing thousands of pounds worth of luggage from British Airways passengers. The men were secretly filmed at Miami International Airport, raiding passengers’ baggage and stealing items from laptop computers to jewellery. They will be sentenced in April.
