BA to launch flights to Puerto Rico
British Airways is to launch a new twice weekly year-round service from London to Puerto Rico from March 28 next year.
The new flight from Gatwick to San Juan will boost the number of BA flights to the Caribbean to 63 a week across 15 destinations, reinforcing its position as the largest European airline flying to the region.
BA made the announcement as chief executive Willie Walsh said the airline would not give up its fight to persuade the British government to reduce air passenger duty to the Caribbean by putting the region into the same tax band as the United States.
Speaking at the Caribbean Tourism Organisation Leadership Strategy conference, Walsh said BA’s new alliance with American Airlines and Iberia would lead to further opportunities for it to expand its presence in the region.
