BA to trial fast food for business class
British Airways is to go ahead with trials of a fast-food service for business class customers, in order to help them to get more sleep.
According to a report in the Financial Times, the carrier will do away with the traditional food service on certain flights from New York’s JFK airport to London during October; instead passengers will be offered a lighter meal that is quicker to serve.
A spokesman for BA told the newspaper: “We would say the conventional service is not completed until about one and a half hours after take-off. We aim to get through this in half an hour. There will also be a bigger choice of pre-flight food in the lounge at JFK. We reckon about 90 per cent of regular travellers will support the idea and if it goes well, we will probably roll it out on other routes next spring.”
The FT also reports that US airlines continue to test passengers’ reactions to being charged for in-flight food. United Airlines is about to start a three-month trial on more than 200 services, while American Airlines is selling carry-on meals on certain flights between JFK, Miami and St Louis.
