BAA raises airport overcrowding fears
Fears of further overcrowding at Britain’s airports were raised yesterday as BAA warned that lack of capacity would restrict traffic growth.
According to The Independent newspaper, BAA’s chief executive Mike Clasper said that demand for air travel would rise by around four per cent this year, but that growth would be restrained.
He pointed out that at Stansted, for example, there are presently no peak-hour landing slots available. The airport operator announced increased profits – pre-tax profits rose by 19 per cent.
Retail income for the group rose by seven per cent, and its shares put on 9p to close at 612p.
